Music has been a part of Brad's life for as long as he can remember. The son of a music minister, Brad began taking piano lessons at the age of 7. In middle school he played percussion, and at the age of 13 he got his first guitar. Throughout high school his focus was on classic and modern rock. At Union University he studied classical guitar and music theory and was also a member of the university's jazz ensemble. He moved to Knoxville in 2011 and formed the band Vagabond Philosophy, which played in and around the East Tennessee area until 2014. More recently, he has played folk-funk with Three Star Revival and currently plays with the traditional bluegrass group, The Lost Fiddle Stringband.

In the past couple years, Brad has focused on old-time fiddle music and bluegrass. Today, he specializes in flatpick guitar, with influences from Bryan Sutton and Tony Rice, as well as a number of musicians from a wide range of genres. He believes that all musicians, no matter what instrument or genre they play, have something to teach you, if you just listen.

As a teacher, he tries to discover first what it is that the student wants to achieve and then creates a lesson plan to provide the student with the tools they need to achieve those goals. He knows from years of experience that the only way to be successful at an instrument is to practice, but he also emphasizes heavily the importance of practicing correctly. His philosophy is that lessons should be about teaching the student how to practice the right way, and once the student practices something the right way, it will become habit.
